assuming both are equally fresh. 200 series on 275/60r20 ko2s with a 2 inch lift or a triple locked 80 series on 285/75r16 falken at.
i won’t lie, i'd think seriously about the trade... course that’s because they are decidedly NOT equally fresh

now that i think about it that 200 series probably has closer to a 3 or 4 inch lift

Take the 200 series, sell it, buy a 100 series, pocket the cash leftover

If I’m supposed to daily it, probably the 200. Although....
If it’s only for adventures and as fresh as you say, hands down the 80.
Old trucks make adventures feel more like adventures. Getting into my Range Rover to go on a trip puts me in a completely different mindset, getting into my Tacoma to go on a trip just doesn’t have the same magic. And it’s not because one’s my daily and one’s more of a special occasion to drive, the same was true of my 2nd gen 4Runner and that was my daily. On the flip side I’ve put 35k on my Tacoma in the past year without anything but routine maintenance and there’s simply no such thing as a truck that’s both old enough to capture that feeling and bulletproof enough it wouldn’t have ended up being a chore to deal with , no matter how well cared for or made-by-Toyota it is.

the venn overlap between people who are into off roading and have terrible taste is slowly turning into a single circle.

Thing is, my 80 series has only ever failed me because of what I or a shop did to it. Never Mr. T’s work. I think if you kept a vehicle up on maintenance using the right procedures and parts it wouldn’t matter much (mechanically) between 50k and 300k miles.

Part of that though is being able to notice when something needs attention and promptly giving it that attention before it becomes an actual problem. In my life this past year if something popped up needing attention and either would take more than an evening to fix or a part that isn’t locally available it could see like 400 miles of use before it gets that attention.

I admire your infatuation with the 100 series as someone who has never seen a blown differential or had to swap a CV on a trail.
I assure you, it’s not as fun as it looks.

Well I'm about as mechanically inclined as a ham sandwich, so I would just sit down an open something cold.

in all fairness, this was an original CV with 280k miles or something like that. it was long overdue for replacement on a preventative maintenance schedule.

80 series all day. I’ve known many people that own them over the years and you would have better luck getting their first born than their Land Cruisers. I’ve always been under the impression that the 80 series was what you got when you didn’t want to daily your 40 series. My how times have changed.

5.7 V8 or 4.5 liter I6. If you want to save gas you should probably get the 5.7
